My optimal presentation will feature the techniques that we learned and used on previous presentations and outside techniques. My next presentation will be based on career paths that I may take.

Google Docs

Google Documents Critical Review

Google Docs is another very useful tool that is available to anyone who has a Google account. A Google doc allows users to work on spreadsheets, word documents, and PowerPoint presentations with friends, family or co-workers. This can be very beneficial to anyone who is going to use this tool that is available. This source is not blocked by many schools and businesses because it is a very valuable and useful and cannot be abused easily. Since multiple people can edit a document at the same time over the internet, it allows multiple people to collaborate on their ideas and their work for one final product that everyone is satisfied with. In many cases, anyone who you want to invite to work on the document with you must be invited by you via email. This is good because you can control who is able to edit your work.

If you are going to use Google docs for business purposes you are at an advantage because you will be able to work on group projects and presentations easier with your coworkers. This is an advantage because all of the people who are assigned to a presentation can work on it and be confident about their presentation in front of a company’s board. If you are going to be using their spreadsheet for your business, you are able to allow multiple people to edit it and all of the formulas are the same as Microsoft Excel’s formulas. If you are going to use this program for school work, you and your group are all able to work on the project by simply providing one another with and email address that you can be invited with. Google docs is not able to be used for social purposes because there aren’t and chat capabilities for this software. If you want to work on Google docs, you can do it with friends but there aren’t many social aspects to this program. If you are going to use Google docs for entertainment, you are at a disadvantage because a Google doc doesn’t have anything to offer you. News would also not be smart to put on Google docs because there is no way for others to know to look there unless you post a sharing link to another website. If you are going to use software for recreational purposes, you and your friends can work on an assignment or a presentation together. A Google doc doesn’t offer games to its users it is strictly able to allow multiple people to edit and create projects for their work and school related assignments.

If you are going to share something with the world, you should not allow anyone to edit it because they can change anything they want about the document. They are able to change formulas, erase words and ruin your work that you put in. It is not smart to share what you are working on with the world unless you turn editing off.

Myspace and Facebook Critical Review

Facebook and MySpace Critical Review

MySpace and Facebook are some of the largest social networks on the internet right now. These are most often used for social and recreational purposes and both are constantly changing and being modified to meet their consumer’s needs and wants. Facebook and MySpace are constantly adding new content for their members to use, the newest improvement to both is the addition of games that allows both websites to be used for more recreational purposes in addition to social.

All groups are able to benefit from using these websites. A business will be able to communicate with its customers and in many cases get a better idea of who is using their products and how they should adjust their products to meet their audience. Both websites will allow for further promotion of products and services. Both websites serve as an advertising medium for any company that uses these websites. The downside is that no one is able to moderate this so you can get negative comments from others using the website. If you are looking to use these websites for social purposes – you are in luck because that’s what these websites were made for. Both websites let you find colleagues, classmates and friends though its powerful search engine. You are able to chat, tag, mail and share pictures and information with your friends and family on these websites. Since both websites are allowed to sell the information you provide them with, you need to be careful what you post on your Facebook or MySpace page. Both sites have added recreational tools for anyone who wishes to use them for that purpose. These social networking sites have added applications that allow you to play games online against your friends and challenge your friend’s scores. You are also allowed to play games that would require a download on the website also. Many celebrities use Facebook to tell their fans about themselves and allow fans to connect with their idols in their lives. Many famous people use these sites to promote themselves and what they stand for along with upcoming movies or concerts they may be apart of. Celebrities are often stalked and this is one of the resources that allow them to be followed. News is also able to be streamed over Facebook and it is easy for the news media to do because they are able to post full stories unlike some other websites because there isn’t a limit on the amount of characters that they can post in a single post.

Overall these websites are becoming more and more convenient because people are able to get all of the information that they need for their day to day life all from 1 website. Most people do not see the reason why you would need to leave these websites, they are becoming more and more convenient and you are now able to get updates to your phone. Like all other sources of social networking they can be abused by people who post inappropriate things that they may not want an employer, college or their parents to see or know about them.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a newer form of communication on the internet. LinkedIn allows the user to reconnect with colleagues and classmates quickly and easily. LinkedIn makes reconnecting and staying in touch easy because it is more professional then most other blogging software available. Unlike most other blogging sites, LinkedIn allows the user to make connections and obtain new opportunities for their business and their personal life. If you use LinkedIn and search for yourself on the internet, LinkedIn will appear on top of the other results allowing people to get a professional view of you before they hire you or meet you.

LinkedIn is a business focused blogging tool. This is a major advantage for anyone who plans on using LinkedIn. It is easy to make connections with others in order to find investors and set up meetings to help your business grow. LinkedIn also allows you to join networks that will help progress your business and your career. If you are looking for a new career opportunity or business partners who have experience, LinkedIn can make that possible for you with its powerful search engine and its company research tools. If you want to use LinkedIn for social or recreational purposes, you are at an advantage because like twitter, you can take LinkedIn where ever you go and you will be able to stay in connect with your classmates and colleagues. LinkedIn makes it easy to reconnect and meet new people. You will always know about your friends and families career changes because LinkedIn alerts you about any changes that they make. If you plan on communicating news, or want to use LinkedIn for your personal entertainment, LinkedIn may not be the right blogging software for you to use. LinkedIn has little to offer anyone who is in these fields. A benefit that LinkedIn has for anyone is that it allows you to ask your network questions relating to your business or social life. If your network doesn’t know that answer the question can be asked to the LinkedIn community and you will be able to get the professional advice that you need.

As always, you want to be careful what you put on the internet because things can always come back to hurt you. LinkedIn helps connect you with others so you will want to be careful what personal information you give them because they can be lying. You also never know who is secretly viewing your profile so you should constantly monitor it and make sure your information is accurate and liable.

Twitter Critical Review

Twitter Critical Review

Twitter is the fastest growing online communication website on the internet. Twitter allows your friends, family and anyone to receive “tweets” from you. A “tweet” is a message that is limited to 140 characters and is posted on your twitter page. Since each post that you make is limited to 140 characters, each post is short, simple and to the point. Many people see this as a great advantage because you spend less time reading and more time catching up with friends and family. Currently, you can receive twitter updates via email, text message and the iPhone allows you to post and receive updates on the Twitter app.

Similar to the pros and cons of blogging, Twitter allows you to tell others about what you are doing. Twitter allows you share what is going on in your life with others because it helps you feel connected to others. Since real life is always happening in between blog posts and emails, Twitter fills that gap of time. If you are a business owner or are blogging for your company, you can let your clients know about future services or products that you will be offering. You can also let them know about promotions and deals that you may be running now or in the future. Unfortunately, this may be difficult because of the 140 character limit so a business will need to keep their posts short and simple. As a race, humans need to socialize with others constantly in order to feel involved in other people’s lives. Twitter makes this possible whether you are blogging something pointless like “I am drinking coffee” or something important and life changing like “I am getting married.” The downside to all this sharing about your life is that people may feel so involved it can get annoying and they may want to know more even if you don’t want to tell them more. Twitter is commonly used by people who are in the field of entertainment whether they are in a hit movie that is coming soon on DVD or a musician who is announcing future concerts. This allows entertainers to connect with their fans so the fans feel like they are involved in their favorite famous people’s lives. The downside is that famous people are often stalked and this can be a potential danger to them. If you are only looking to blog for recreational purposes, you are at a disadvantage because you will be constantly updated with your friends and family’s updates about what they are doing. I don’t recommend using Twitter for recreational purposes; you should resort to a different program if you plan on blogging. Finally, news can be difficult to communicate because there is a character limit, you won’t be able to get into major details about whatever news you are trying to convey. The benefit you are able to get from using Twitter is that it is easy for the news to travel quickly and efficiently.

The most common way that twitter is abused is constant updates that are unnecessary and other people may not want to know.

Blogging Critical Review

Blogging has become a more popular method of communication in the 21st century. A person can use a verity of host websites to host their blog on such as BlogSpot, Face Book and MySpace. These sites and many others allow users to interact with friends, family and colleagues as often as they wish. Blogging can just help you; it can also hurt you in your professional life or your personal life.

A recent film “Julie and Julia” tells the story of Julie who is living in New York with her Fiancée; Julie is an aspiring writer who uses her blog to tell her story. Before Julie decided to blog about the challenge she gives herself, she blogged about her personal life and used her blog for socializing with friends and family. Julie decides to take on the challenge of cooking every recipe from Julia Child’s cook book in 1 year. As her challenge continues, she blogs about both the food she cooks and her personal life. Julie ends up driving her Fiancée away and ultimately ruining her personal life but someone decides to meet with her and publish her blog as a book and she becomes a thriving author.

The film clearly demonstrates the positives and negatives to blogging. Like Julia some people can become recognized if they want to become a professional author, others will blog about everything that happens in their life and can end up ruining their personal life. Some businesses will use blogs to communicate with their clients and tell them about events and future products and services that they will be offering; this allows the blog to serve as a tool for promotion. In turn, a blog can also hurt a business if they blog about things that they might want to keep secret and not tell the competition. If someone wants to blog for social reasons, they may find someone to talk to and get advice on their problems and issues. A problem that can arise from this would be a stalker learning everything and anything about them and potentially hurting the blogger. News, recreation and entertainment all have similar positives and negatives. If there is a blog that relates to any of these areas, it will allow for news to spread and for words and current events to be heard. A negative could be decease is sales if people are able to get all the information they want on your blog instead of buying a newspaper or attending a baseball game. Like all technologies, blogging can be abused someone can find out anything and anything about what you are blogging and they will have access to anything they want to know. One needs to be careful about what they blog because it can always come back to hurt them and others around them. It isn’t smart to put anything personal on a blog because you don’t know who is viewing your blog.

Israel Bans Imports of Apple IPad

On April 3rd the Ipad hit the market and is a revolutionary piece of modern technology. The IPad has many features that Apple has thought of to make it convienent and easy to use. The IPad is currently being sold for $500 and is sold at most chain stores all over the country.

Recently, Israel decided to ban this piece of technology because of its Wi-Fi capabilities. Electronic devices in Israel and in Europe work on different frequancy banbs then devices in America. Isreal is the first country to ban the device and hopes to have the problem fixed closer to the international release date on May 9th. Customs officials in Israel have already confiscated 10 of these devices and are holding them for a daily fee at the owners expense until the owner ships the device back to America, again at the owners expense. Some Israelis have gotten the device into the country and are secretly keeping them hidden because many IPod and IPad applications are made in Israeal.
