Twitter Critical Review
Twitter is the fastest growing online communication website on the internet. Twitter allows your friends, family and anyone to receive “tweets” from you. A “tweet” is a message that is limited to 140 characters and is posted on your twitter page. Since each post that you make is limited to 140 characters, each post is short, simple and to the point. Many people see this as a great advantage because you spend less time reading and more time catching up with friends and family. Currently, you can receive twitter updates via email, text message and the iPhone allows you to post and receive updates on the Twitter app.
Similar to the pros and cons of blogging, Twitter allows you to tell others about what you are doing. Twitter allows you share what is going on in your life with others because it helps you feel connected to others. Since real life is always happening in between blog posts and emails, Twitter fills that gap of time. If you are a business owner or are blogging for your company, you can let your clients know about future services or products that you will be offering. You can also let them know about promotions and deals that you may be running now or in the future. Unfortunately, this may be difficult because of the 140 character limit so a business will need to keep their posts short and simple. As a race, humans need to socialize with others constantly in order to feel involved in other people’s lives. Twitter makes this possible whether you are blogging something pointless like “I am drinking coffee” or something important and life changing like “I am getting married.” The downside to all this sharing about your life is that people may feel so involved it can get annoying and they may want to know more even if you don’t want to tell them more. Twitter is commonly used by people who are in the field of entertainment whether they are in a hit movie that is coming soon on DVD or a musician who is announcing future concerts. This allows entertainers to connect with their fans so the fans feel like they are involved in their favorite famous people’s lives. The downside is that famous people are often stalked and this can be a potential danger to them. If you are only looking to blog for recreational purposes, you are at a disadvantage because you will be constantly updated with your friends and family’s updates about what they are doing. I don’t recommend using Twitter for recreational purposes; you should resort to a different program if you plan on blogging. Finally, news can be difficult to communicate because there is a character limit, you won’t be able to get into major details about whatever news you are trying to convey. The benefit you are able to get from using Twitter is that it is easy for the news to travel quickly and efficiently.
The most common way that twitter is abused is constant updates that are unnecessary and other people may not want to know.
